Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

grandparent raising grandchild

I have solely been raising my grandson for the last eight years without any fincial support or contact from either of his parents. I have no custody or quardianship over him during this time.

He has just turned 18 years old and still lives with me and wants to go to college. I know I can't go back and collect any kind of past child support for the last 8 years from his parents, but is there any other way that I could go into court now to try to collect any kind of past monies owed to me as a kind of debt for (finacially) raising him for all of these past years.

I did try to go into the courts for quardianship and child support, but it didn't go anywhere because basically I did not have any rights to do so and things just kept getting dismissed until I could no longer take on the financial burden of raising my grandson and a legal battle in the courts.

Both of his parents are very much finanically secure and could pay any kind of past support owed to me, that wouldn't be the problem. The problem is how to go about doing so.

Thank you
