Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Grandparents and family adoption

My parents and I have agreed that they should adopt my kids. My ex has signed a paper reliq. his rights. I have no problem paying cs or for insurance, I do anyways. My mom had me sign a paper so that my ex would not be chased anymore for cs or the insurance. She and my dad have legal gaurdianship, that I agreed to in court. I don't make a lot of money. And my bills must get paid. I do not drink or do drugs. My mom complains that she doesn't think she is getting nearly enough money from me. The judge never set a cs agreement between us when grndship was granted. My mom knows where I work. She tells me she has been talking with FHS, and that I will never get the support order reinstated, and that they are comming after me for cs. My question is this Is that possible? And should I consult with an attorney to make sure I don't get screwed in this adoption proceeding? What can I expect in this adoption proceeding?

Re: Grandparents and family adoption

Hello. If your parents are going to adopt your children, you legally should not have to pay child support.

If they remain guardians of your children, that's another issue. You

definitely need a lawyer to protect your interest, in my opinion. Will be happy to discuss this further and in more detail.
