Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Guardianship of minor

Our son is now 17 years old - when he was three, we were awarded legal guardianship of him by Illinois court system, with agreement of his biological mother. Whereabouts of biological father are unknown. As we fill out FAFSA form, there is a question ''are you (or were you until age 18) a ward/dependent of the court?''. How do we answer this - is he still in some way a dependent of the court? Is the FAFSA answer a simple Yes or No? Financial aid is probably influenced by our answer.

Thank you very much.

Re: Guardianship of minor

No, your son is not a ward of the court. That would be if he's in a foster home.
