Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
Harrassment after Divorce
I have been divorced over 5 years. The first few years after my divorce, I would receive flowers, cards, etc from my ex-husband. In the past two years, it has become a regular thing and has become scary. I have moved several times and he seems to find me. I believe he finds me because he works for IDOT. He shows up in my parking lot at home, I have seen him come through my parking lot at work (just drive, not stopping). Is there a way to get him to stop? I know what he is capable of doing (I was married to him for 22 years before I had enough) adn I just want to be left alone! Can I have charges placed against him for harrassment, an order of protection???
Help me please!

Re: Harrassment after Divorce
Yes. Call the police and see if they can contact your ex and ask that he be told to leave you alone. The actions you descibe to me are in a gray area. He doesn't seem to make direct contact with you except by gifts and cards. While they are uninvited and unwanted A court may not find them exactly threatening or dangerous.
I believe you when you say that you feel threatened and scared don't get me wrong. Hopwever, I do beleive that he may need to be told to leave you alone first before you can proceed to the next step of seeking orders of protection.
Finally if you feel threatened now. Call the police. Better safe than sorry as far as your safety is concerned.
