Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
Health/Life Insurance 10 years after Divorce Decree?
My ex and I divorced in 1996. We used a ''kit'' where I just filled-in the blanks and the judge granted the divorce. Dad pays $450 a month in support, and has every other weekend. I have sole custody of our daughter. Now ten years later, things are getting more expensive so I asked for my support. He said no, but suddenly offered to put her on his health insurance, but still refuses to provide life insurance (on him) for her. Even though it wasn't in the original decree, can I still get the health and life insurance coverage for her? He says if he dies, Social Security will pay - yeah... me, my daughter, and his new wife and two kids. That's not enough to supplement the loss of child support. What am I entitled to?

I would have to say no. This is one of the problems associated with doing complex legal matters by yourself. However, I would have to assume that your ex is earning more money now then he did 10 years ago which means you can petition the court for an increase in child support which your daughter is entitled to.
