Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
Hello,
Before marriage I lost my job. My husband with who I was terribly in love, pushed me to sign prenuptial agreement before our marriage, which says that after divorce each side will got what it had before marriage.
We have been married for 3 years. No children. I have no job.
My husband has a great job in University of Illinois and also every 3 month money from his family's business.
He is an alcoholic and also has angry problems. I have a few police reports about that. Also he had a previous alcoholic and angry behavior history in different relationships, which almost lead him to jail, but his family paid money for him.
This marriage is very painful to me.
Does it has any sense for me to get an attorney? I mean this prenuptial agreement left me without any possibility to make him pay for all my time and tears?
Thank you for any answer.
Please, answer me to: [email protected]
Regards,
Ann

Ann - yes an attorney should not only review the agreement but also find out from you a number of things as to how finances have been handled at home -- very often how the parties to the agreement actually conduct themselves regardless of what the agreement says, can have an affect on the agreement and how valid it is. If you are without a job or your own source of income a divorce court can order the spouse with money to pay attorney fees for the spouse without money. There are other reasons the agreement may not be valid given the facts of your case. Best of luck.
