Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Hello,

I am in the midst of doing a divorce settlement which involves division of a business. My wife has an attorney, but I have no money as she has control of the assets of the business and is delaying settlement while the business dies and I have no money. Is there something I can file to at least force a settlement to be done by a certain date so I can at least move on with my life?

You need to hire an attorney. Under the leveling the playing field statute 750 ILCS 5/503(c)(i) you wife can be ordered to provide funds for you to pay for the lawyer but you need to hire an attorney first. Anytime you have a business or disputed assets involved you cannot afford to represent yourself.
