Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Hello,

I am a senior in high school and next year I plan on attending a four year university. My father promised my mother he would pay for my education as long as she did not take him to court for child support. Now my father doesn't want to pay for my college. I am my fathers only kid that will make something of my life because my brother has been in trouble with the law for DUI numerous times and has helped him out alot over the years. Is it possible I could sue him for college expenses and win? My mother is currently on diability and can not afford to send me to college.

Your father may be liable for college expenses. You should retain a family lawyer, and they will file a '513' Petition for post-high school expenses. On a side note, it was not wise for your mother to not pursue child support based on an unenforceable oral agreement. You need to start getting these things in writing. That is what the court system is for.
