hidden costs in personal legal name change?

Can someone plese tell me what the costs are for a legal name change for personal use (not business or commercial) in Cook County, Chicago, IL?

I see many ads offering free software or name change kits for as low at $39.95 or $12.95 if you fill the forms out yourself. But I assume there are other court fees, etc.

ALso, does one need to appear in court or are the documents filed by mail or electronically?

Hello. The Clerk of the Circuit Court of

Cook County will provide you with information

concerning the filing fee and set cost to

obtain a change of name. Dial directory assistance for the number. Generally, each lawyer

will have his/her own fee schedule with regard

to this kind of work.
