Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

How hide money before marriage

I'm not married yet, but I have some questions since so many marriages end in divorce. I don't want to get a prenuptual agreement, because I don't feel comfortable. Is there any way to keep my money safe, like in stocks, that would exclude them from consideration in the event of a divorce? Would inheritance from my parents be up for grabs?

I think that since you titled this "how to hide money before marriage", you should really consider not getting married at all. If you are hiding money from a future spouse then thats just going to cause all sorts of problems and will probably cause a divorce.

You state that you are not comfortable with a pre-nup but are you more comfortable loosing 1/2 your money to an ex-spouse?

I can't think of any other way to protect your property than a prenuptuial agreement. A living revocable trust can be reached by creditors, so it can be reached by a divorcing spouse. In an irrevocable trust you lose control over your property and the trust owns it. Please call for a free consultation.
