Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Hospitalization rights

We are legal guardians of my niece she is 16. We became her guardians when her mother killed herself while the kids were with us she was 9 years old she was born addicted to crack. She has always been a problem child we could never leave her with babysitters because she would acted up and theaten to kill the sitter while she sleeps so we went thought a lot of babysitters until we just stop going out all together.she is always starting fights at home, school threating death. It was to the point that our son was afaid to sleep in his own room. It has gotten worse the older she gets. But lately it is getting worse now she's threatening to kill us and herself. She makes fights up to her friends now they are calling to tell me I am a bitch and they want me dead too. I don't know the friends. She does into her bedroom an yells out the window stop hitting me get away from me. Help help there's no one upstairs with her. Now since we have taken her in we have found out from her mothers side of the family there is serious biolar with suicide and since her mother committed suicide we are thinking of have her committed what are our legal right to do so against her will. If I even mention taking her to counseling she get more mad.threatens

Re: Hospitalization rights

Hello. You have a very serious problem. You need to take immediate steps to protect yourselves. Having your granddaughter committed,

under the circumstances, is probably best for you

and for her. From your explanation, I am unable

to determine whether you are guardian of her

person only or of her estate and person. In my

opinion the court that legally appointed you

guardian of your granddaughter should be notified. In fact you will probably need the

court's permission to commit your granddaughter.

You need representation here. There are alot

of other issues that need to be considered. Will

be happy to answer any additional questions that

you may have.
