if i had a house paid off before i got married would i have to split that with my new husband of four years

Generally, this is considered to be your separate, non-marital property and its value is not shared at the time of a dissolution. OTOH, if you and your husband borrowed against it or it was paid off with funds from both of you prior to the marriage, your husband many have some claims for compensation. Without more facts, its not possible to give a definite answer.
