Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
Husband gave up parental rights 4 years ago
My husband gave up his parental rights to his daughter 4 years ago because she was out of control, she is now in foster care, she has recently contacted my mother in law stating that dcfs says she can talk to the family again because she is 18. Is this true? Does this include my husband? We were told no more contact & she is not trustworthy & mother in law will giver her our # no matter what. We want to be sure she can contact us before we answer the phone then get in trouble for doing so.

Hello. At age 18 she is technically
a young adult. She can vote, etc.
In my opinion, DCFS should be out of the picture. I would talk to her.
What your husband did was done when
she was a minor. Now she is of age and I take it no one else adopted her.
I suggests that your husband communicate with her and if she needs therapy and you can provide it, do so.
However, if you have doubts or you feel physically at risk, start by writing her and maybe you and other family members could meet her at a public spot for the initial meeting.
Will be happy to discuss this with you further and in more detail.
