Hyphenated name

Can my 15 year old son hyphenate his last name and use his step father's name along with his bio father's name even if his bio father does not agree?

Re: Hyphenated name

If the biological father shares legal custody of your son, then he can block any formal name change unless you get a court order or consent.

That said, it is possible to change one's name through use. If your son wants to use the hyphen, starts signing things with the hyphen, and generally goes by the new name, then the whole thing could be a moot point.

Is there a specific reason he wants to change his name (driver's license?)
