Infidelity laws and the use of a private investigators

Hello,I received a letter from a private investigator stating that It is imperative that I call them to save time and expense and embarrassment for all concerned.The situation is that I was cheating on my wife with another married woman who's in turn confessed the whole allegedly confessed the whole relationship to her husband,ever since he found out he has been on a mission to destroy me even though the relationship me and his wife had was consentual.I would like what rights do a private investigator has to destroy you're life publicly over a past situation even if he recorded me leaving her or having conversations with her,and what do that above statement on the letter they sent me is suppose to mean.

A private investigator has no right to destroy your life with his information. There are laws against blackmail and extortion. Your problem however is that for you to sign a complaint, you then run the risk of exposing the information you prefer to keep secret. It does sound like the people are interested in money from you in return for their silence. What they are trying to do is illegal. You have a very difficult situation.
