Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

IRS and Child support owed

I am getting married in a couple of months and I just found out that my fiance owes the IRS and back child support (15k total). If I marry him will I become liable for these debts and any future (if we marry) child support and IRS debts he owes?

No, but you have to know that you are marrying someone with some real financial issues, and perhaps a deadbeat dad.

You will not be personally liable for his past debts or for his child support obligations present and future, but any money he pays towards those iems is money that will be coming out of marital funds! It might be better to wait on any marriage until he has caught up with his obligations. Also, in many cases such as this, the woman in your position winds up trying to collect back child support herself!
