Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Joint Bank Account After Divorce

I've recently divorced and have been trying for the past year to have my ex

remove my name from a joint banck account we oenned while still married.

The Bank has informed me that since she is the primary account holder, she

has to personally go to the bank and either a) remove my name or b) close

the account. Through several emails I have requested this to be done, but

she continues 'not to be able to find the time.' Is there some way I can force

my name to be removed either by legal action or explaining the situation to

the bank? I am concerned that if this account somehow goes defunk, I will be

held responsible. The bank has informed me that could happen. Thank you

for your time.

Re: Joint Bank Account After Divorce

Tell your ex that if she fails to take your name off of the account in the next 7 business days the you will be forced to file a petition with the court asking that it issue an order finding your ex in contempt for not being in compliance with the divorce decree.
