can a judgment be dropped by the party who obtained it in the first place

I need more specifics...what type of a judgment? If it's a monetary judgment, if the judgment is against you, you should be sure to get a "release of judgment" from the judgment creditor so it's really dropped. As for non-monetary judgments, likely nothing needs to be done...the person who has the judgment just wouldn't enforce it.
