Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Can a lawyer refuse to go to court with you if you owe him $900 of the $7000 you were charged and he tells you to lie to the judge and say that he has another case? This would be the last court date if he goes so he wants the balance or he won't go. I've signed papers stating that I will pay him the balance and I have been paying on a regular basis. He filed for sanction in this case and stands to win a judgement from the other side of $1500.

First of all, a lawyer is not allowed to instruct a client to lie to a judge. Given the punishment for doing so, I find it hard to believe an attorney would put their law license in the hands of a client they are not getting along with.
