leaving your home
i have a lady friend who has two small children who
may want to leave her husband who is a mental abuser
if i let them stay at my apartment rent free and i
move out while they stay there and do not stay with
them.could she be hurt in legally in her divorce
by her husband.

Without knowing more, it's difficult to say. My guess is that Illinois has no fault divorce anyway. If you are concerned that the husband is going to say that she is shacking up with you and thus corrupting the morals of the children, a lot would depend on the attitudes of the Judges where you live. Although I can't see it in this day and age being all that crucial. Providing a situation as you are attempting to do, where that won't become an issue probably would short circuit that attempt.
I can't address the property issues that might arise. My expertise is custody. And the courts generally are first going to look at who the primary caretaker is, especially with young children, in determining who should be awarded custody. They will then look at the stability of each parent and generally which parent will provide consistant and appropriate care.
