Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
I left my husband in May of 2011. We have been living separately since then. We are in the process of divorcing. I am considering purchasing a townhome, which my parents will pay for. If they put the townhome in my name should I be concerned that my future ex huband can lay claim to half of it as community property or marital asset.

Illinois does not have "community property". If your parents pay for it and none of your funds from your marriage are used, it should effectively be a gift to you from them that would not ordinarily be considered a "marital asset". However if they are gifting the house to you, why not put it in their names until your divorce is finalized? You should be talking to a divorce attorney because this and other issues could come up.
