Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
legal age for independence
What is the legal age a child can move out on her own? My daughter is 17 and wants to move out with her boyfriend of 2 years, he is now 24. I approve of him and know him well. Is it legal for her to move out at seventeen or does she need to be 18? Her father and I are divorced and he does not approve of the age difference. Are there any legal repercussions if she moves out at 17 with a boy older than her? Please advice.
Thank you

Re: legal age for independence
Hello. I suggests that you encourage your daugh-
ter to wait. Technically, she is still a minor.
Your ex-husband could cause problems in Court,
if she does move out. Also, your daughter's
boyfriend could be in jeopardy with the law if
she begins living with him at her age. Waiting
it out, until the age of 18, will be the best
step for all involved. I hope my answer helps.
Will be happy to answer any additional questions
