legal fees

My divorce decree states that my ex has to pay $2500 towards my attorney fees. My attorney is saying I have to pay the $2500 and get my $2500 from my ex myself. Can that be right?

Yes, it can be right. It depends on the attorney, but if you have already paid your attorney, typically such an award is to reimburse you. I have had cases where I was collecting fees from both the former client and the opposing party at the same time.
