Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

legal guardianship of our grandson

My wife and I are the legal guardians of our 9 year old grandson since July of 2002. This July we relocated from IL to Colorado due to a job change. We were verbally advised my the attorney that handled the guardianship petition that no action was needed with the court in IL as a result of the relocation. Soon after the relocation, we filed the anual status of the ward report as our grandson's guardians. The court came back and said we needed to provide some legal basis or statute in order for IL to retain jurisdiction in this matter since both the guardians and the ward no longer reside in IL. We've contacted the attorney of record but have gotten little information regarding what we have to do. Can you help?

Re: legal guardianship of our grandson

Contact a lawyer in Colorado for help. After 6 months in another state, the Illinois courts no longer have jurisdiction.
