Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

What is the legal interpretation of "calling off a wedding" vs. "postponing a wedding"? My fiance wanted to postpone the wedding for a year or so to work on our relationship, but I decided that calling off the wedding for the time being was a better solution. In my view, we mutually agreed that our original wedding date was called off, except we have differing views (i.e. "calling off" vs. "postponing"). We had a wedding date set for April 30, 2010 and that reservation cancelled. We are arguing over who has legal right to the engagement ring and we live in Illinois.

The question you are really asking is do you get to keep the ring. Legally - No. Morally - Hell no. It is given in contemplation of marriage. There was no marriage. Do the right thing and give the ring back.
