Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Legal Separation vs Divorce

I understand, by definition, the difference between a Legal separation and a divorce, but what are the pro's or con's of the two? If someone is going to get a divorce, is there any benefit to getting a Legal Separation first?

Re: Legal Separation vs Divorce

Hello and Happy New Year. A legal separation is best for a couple who believe that there is a chance that they may reconcile. If a husband and wife cannot reconcile, a legal separation is a waste of time and money. However, there are those who do not believe in divorce. If this is the case, a legal separation would be the way to go. Will be happy to discuss this with you further and in more detail.
