Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

How do I legally change my first name? I have always used my middle name, rather than my first (given name). Now with all the new laws I want to legally drop my first name and use my middle name as my legal given name.

There's a relatively simple court procedure called a "name change". Check with the clerk of the court in your district. As long as you're not trying to defraud creditors, it's no big deal. HOWEVER any documents issued to you in your current name will become a problem.....and you'll very likely need certified copies of the court order of the change for things like passports, various kinds of schools and jobs, credit, etc.
