Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

If I was legally married in Mexico but we never filed any paperwork in the U.S. (live in Illinois) - i.e. the marriage was never recorded, is the marriage legally binding in the U.S.?

If LEGALLY married in Mexico than you are still married as far as the US is concerned.
