Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I live with my long term boyfriend. We're not married, but we do have children. I no longer want to live with him. I would like to move out with the kids. What is the right way to do this to protect myself? How do I go about getting child support? If i leave can he say its abandonment?

If you leave without the kids, you may be considered to have abandoned them. If he is not on the kid's birth certificates, he has little legal rights until he is declared to be their father. Is he is on the birth certs, then each of you have equal rights to possess the kids, as any other parent. If you need child support, you can file a Petition seeking support from him. Move out with the kids.
