Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
I live in the state of Illinois. My daughter turned 18 in June. I just discovered that the child support check was not deposited for the month of July. On our divorce papers there is no stop date for child support nor has my ex taken me back to court to stop child support. And I have not signed any papers as such to stop termination of child support payments. My daughter will be attending the community college near by for 2 yrs starting this fall she will reside with me. Do I have a case to get a lawyer to keep child support payments coming.

Child support stops as a matter of law when you child attains 18, unless she has not graduated from high school in which case the support end when the child graduates. You need to file a motion for contribution to college expenses if you want support to continue.
