Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

How can living with a new boyfriend effect my divorce?

I have been separated for almost a year and recently filed for a divorce. Even after the filing, my husband and I have gotten along fine and have worked out visitation and support for our two kids. About two months ago, my new boyfriend moved in to assist with everyday living and it has been wonderful. My soon-to-be ex has been aware of him and seemed fine with it until recently when I sent him the divorce papers to sign. He is complaining about support for the kids and I since ''my boyfriend is there to take care of us now.'' I don't feel I should have to stop looking at a future with this man until my ex chooses to sign, but will having my boyfriend living with us effect my divorce and prevent me from receiving support for my children? My boyfriend, who works, is not sharing in the daily bills as of yet, but he does help with misc. items, cleaning, and staying with the children while I work. I needed help and he offered. Will this cause too many problems with the divorce?

Re: How can living with a new boyfriend effect my divorce?

Your ex will have to pay child support no matter who you live with. They are his children. Living with your new boyfriend may cause you some problems, but won't derail the divorce proceedings.
