Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Living Together
I have lived with someone for 7&1/2 years. There is no common law in Illinois. I paid and did way more of my share. We bought a house and agreed it was ours jointly. I have tons of sweat equity and a fair amount of money in it. It is common knowledge that the reason we didn't get married is from my possible problems from a failed business and some other things. I wanted to leave him out of it until it was clear. I wanted to protect him. I had also had cancer and had considerable bills from that. I don't make a lot of money and I need to stay here until I can get on my feet. I own everything (furniture,etc.) in the house. I put my heart, soul, and money into this. Now a break up. He wants me to leave. I am looking for any loophole or anything to help me here. It is not a good time. I realize I have stupid in neon letters across my forehead. He has stashed a lot of money hidden from IRS. Would not have it without me paying so much. He has his own business. The other day I fell and hurt myself. If I had broken something I need to know if I could sue. I know it will take a little time to evict me. I will contest it. But I just need to see if there is anything at all I can do.

Hello. My first advice is do not voluntarily

move out. You say that you and your friend

own the house together. Therefore, stay in the

house. If you get eviction papers, deal with

it then. Assuming your name is on the deed too,

you could file a partition claim to divide up

your interest in the property. Even though you

were not married, 1/2 of everything is yours since you bought it together. I wll be happy to

answer any more questions that you might have.
