Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Living Together

I have lived with someone for 7

years - with me doing most of the

supporting. He has signed papers

that he owes me $26,000 outright

(borrowed) and I have kept a journal

of bills I have paid monthly -

including house payments. Is there

any palimony or common law status

in Illinois that I could sue him for.

He works for cash only - and gets

paid ''under the table'' - so he

doesn't have to show income. He

does own a house, a boat, and a

trailer. Would I be able to

compensate from any of these under

my status as ''girlfriend''. (His family

has all made comments that they

consider us ''common law''.

Re: Living Together

You need to consult an attorney.

There is no palimony nor common law in Illinois.

However, you may be entitled to a reimbursement of funds or some kind of ownership interest based on a partnership theory or unjust enrichment.
