Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

How long will this divorce take?

Back in 2005 I filed for divorce pro se (my ex and I made an agreement regarding everything w/our child), the judge threw the case out (ex changed his mind n decided he didn't want to pay 20% in childsupport)and asked both me and my ex to get lawyers. Now he has filed for the divorce and we both have laywers. My son lives w/me n his dad never wants him when I call. We had a childsupport date n they issued temp support w/me paying full med (unfair). It's been months n he still hasnt paid any support. My case is taking 4 ever n right now I feel as though this could have been over with (they consolidated the support case w/the divorce). He has been threatening n violant (n has been during our whole marriage-he does drugs) so when I ask my lawyer to get a restraining order (just 4 me not my son)he said it wasnt a good idea cause it wouldn't look good in court right now. Right now the case is set on progress call for the third time. How long will this take? or should I get a new laywer?

Hello. I suggests writing your present lawyer

about your concerns. Set up an appointment to

meet with him/her to set things straight. If you

can reso]lve the case with your present attorney,

that would be great; you would save time and

money.
