Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

maintenance and assets

She filed 7 months ago...I'm not served yet, living separately(she left).

I'm employed , she enters medical residency next month, and fully employed MD in 2 years. I want to buy a $50K new car.

Any advantages for me regarding purchase vs leasing.

I have assets (a paid off vehicle to trade).

If I purchase, I intend to leave the loan value upside down for about 3 years and refinance if necessary depending on case status. How do leases factor in when assessing assets in a property settlement situation, espescially if I roll my trade in as a capital cost reduction upfront. We no longer communicate so I don't think this will move along fast. Also, my current intention is to leave my career and return to school in the next 2 years. I supported her through 9 years of education.

Is maintenance a possibility for my continuing education?

If I do the car deal will it possibly jeopardize the opportunity for future maintenance?

We have a marriage of more than 10 years and I have approximately 100K in pension funds during this time. Other assets not significant.

She has significant student loan debt.

I'm sure there's many other factors which may be relevant, but any guidance provided would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: maintenance and assets

if she filed 7 months ago and you were not served, then the case would have been dismissed. She only has a certain amount of time. I would be much more worried about getting done with the divorce than how to buy a new car. The divorce should not take that long anyway. Without kids, i should have been done in less then 7 months.
