Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
marital property/ support
for 15+ yrs my husband was an
alcoholic, held jobs on and off. if he
left a job or was let go and got sev.
thousand $ from a retirement
savings i never saw any of that. he
would sell annuities and i would have
to pay taxes on that income. i have
provided health insurance with my
job always as i was not confident he
would keep a job long enough. ~ 2
yrs ago he was found to have
inoperable lung cancer and spent 4
mos in the hosp. i was told he
wouldn't make its, but he is now
doing well and on soc sec disability.
He should get medicare this yr. i
have the only retirement accts from
my jobs. if i divorce him would i
have to give him half the house, half
the retirement and provide support.
we have been married about 27 yrs.
there are so many times hse has
been verbally abusive and we are
living in the same house and i
haven't talked dto him for a month.
He has said to me that if we would
think about separating he would
''take me for all i have'' he is very
vengeful and angry i don't know who
i can talk to about this. his sisters
family has some money and i don't
know if they would pay for him to
get a lawyer that could do that.

Re: marital property/ support
this is a very serious problem.
Illinois law does not support you well. He would be entitled to large portion of the marital assets, as well as your pension. He might even be entitled to support from your current income.
You need to have your situation evaluated by a local attorney immediately
