Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

marriage

Is it possiable if you live with someone 10 months a year that you could be married? I am a resident of Il. but live with him in Ky. We ran a business together of which he think I not entitled to any thing from the business. I am on the corporation and on the stock.

Re: marriage

Can't speak for Kentucky, but there is no such thing as common law marriage in Illinois, so, living with someone for any amount of time won't make you married.

Re: marriage

Neither Illinois nor Kentucky are "common law" marriage states. No matter how long you live together, you are not married without a formal license.

But, if you are listed as an owner of stock in the corporation, then you are entitled to take a share in the business. What exactly that means depends on how the corporation is set up. Please feel free to contact us if you want to talk about the details.
