Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
My mom is going through a divorce in So. Illinois. My dad is asking for everything. She is doing everything she can to keep it together. She was just recently told that even if she goes to court and is awarded the money that he owes her, he can say he doesn't have it and based on a 2008 law there isn't anything she can do to get it. She can sue him in civil court but still may not get anything. He has pretty much taken everything from her and is living comfortably. She is working overtime to keep up with all the bills. Is all this true?

Father is asking for everything, so he believes it exists. But if Mother gets it, he can say he doesn't have it. Understand, people will say anything if they think you'll believe it and give up. Most of what they say is not true, but it frightens the other person.
If Mom doesn't have an attorney, help her get one. Now is the time for all the kids to pool their money and help hire an attorney who will stand between her and Dad. She doesn't deserve to come out with nothing after a long term marriage. And perhaps her lawyer will ask the Court to order Father to pay her attorney fees and cost of suit.
