Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
My mother in law has been taking care of a boy who is 4yrs old since he was 6 months old, the birth mother, who is not fit to take care of the child, was promising to let my mother in law adopt the boy, but never went through the actions, and now the birth mother wants to take the child back after 4yrs. is there any thing my mother in law can do?

She should file for guardianship of the minor child. If you are in Cook County - go to the 12th floor of the Daley Center. There should be a help desk there to assist her. If not, the clerk's office located on the same floor can give her directions.
