Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

options

my ex and i decided to reconcile our relationship. he's dropping the case but we have a court date in the beginning of feb. i told him to release his lawyer of her services. he can represent himself in court, so we can save some money and the judge will drop the case. his lawyer told him that she needed to do it, and go to court to do paperwork?? i feel like shes just trying to make some money, and we really don't have it. what are our options and do i have to go to court even though he's dropping the case?

I lawyer must stay in the case until the court allows he/she to withdraw. The lawyer's right about this one.
