Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Parent Emmancipation from Child

I have children that will not acknowledge me as their parent. I have visitaion but I am not allowed to enforce it. My 19 year old son has made his step father his parent and ignores both his mom and myself. My 16 year old daughter has igored me and my attempts to talk to her and my attempts at visitation due to her mom's negative talks about me. I have seen where children emmancipate themselves from parents due to various reasons. Am I as a parent allowed to emmancipate myself from my children? I live in Minnesota and my children live in Illinois.

Re: Parent Emmancipation from Child

No, the law does not allow you to emmancipate yourself from your children. Only you know the reasons for the actions of your children and its my opinion that perhaps you should see if counseling would help the situation.
