Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

parental rights termination

a friend of mine is wanting to give up his parental rights of his 14 yr old daughter. He has had nothing but problems with his ex and now the child is basically minupulating the situation. I tried to talk to him but he is set on this. What is the legal process for him to do this?

Re: parental rights termination

Hello. It is unlikely that the court will terminate parental rights completely. The court will want to insure that your friend pays child support. By law in Illinois he cannot be forced to spend time with his daugher, but the court will order him to continue to pay child support. Situations where the court enters an order terminating parental rights are rare. Will be happy to discuss this in more detail.
