Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
Parenting Time Credit to Non Custodial Parents
I live in the State of Indiana, And my divorce was handled in Illinois, I was reading an article in the newspaper that there is a new Child Support Credits offered in Indiana. My ex-wife also lives in Indiana. Will the State of Illinois offer this Credit? Have you heard about this . It was issued in the Hammond-Gary Indiana Times. This particular credit offers parents increased overnight stays, reduces the non-custodial parents child support obligation to compensate for the expenses associated with spending more time with the child, instead of that everyother weekend deal! The custodial parent will receive less support money, and fewer expenses.
All we want to know is has Illinois changed their support guidelines?
Thank-You!

Re: Parenting Time Credit to Non Custodial Parents
Since neither you nor your former spouse continues to reside in the State of Illinois, you can have your decree registered in Indiana so that Indiana law will apply in terms of seeking changes to custody, visitation and support.
Merely because Indiana has changed the manner in which the child support guidelines apply to cases which originate in Indiana or which are registered here, does not mean that another state has also changed its guidelines or the manner in which the same are applied.
