Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
power of attorney
My my mother passed while visiting one of her grand-daughters in IN. When we asked if she had power of attorney over her affairs she said yes but would show no documentation. How do I find out if she really did have power of attorney granted to her? My mother lived in Illinois but recently moved to her grand-daughters to stay while her companion was in the hospital in Indiana. Do I check in IL or IN? I am using my daughter, Linda Streed's email for research purposes. Please send all replies to her email. Thank you.

Re: power of attorney
When your mother died, the power of attorney ceased to exist. All her property belongs in her estate. Open a probate in court as soon as you can speak to a lawyer. The grand-daughter has no power over anything now. If there is a will, that controls everything.
