Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I am preparing to leave my abusive and controlling husband. Last week, I purchased a new cell phone in my own name. He found it and smashed it. Also, he and I were in the car, our son was standing in the open car door and had his hands on the car. He got mad at our son and drove off, spinning tires. Do I have grounds for and order of protection.

Based on what you have said, it sure sounds like you would have grounds for an order of protection, but I'd have to know more. Essentially for an order of protection you have to show continued harassment or abuse, whether it be physical or mental, and essentially fear. If he is abusive and these incidents have gone on for a long time there is a more compelling case for an OP, but you could try to obtain one with these grounds.
