Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
I am in the process of a divorce. We were married in 1975, we own a house in Wisconsin that is a duplex, rented out. I hired an attorney and the attorney understood my circumstances, that I'm on disability, with limited income, living whereever I can. He finally had put a motion in for temporary relief. That was in November, still nothing has happened. The attorney said he would try to go after my husband for legal fees also. But hasn't done that either. The only thing the attorney has done is shown up in court and had some conversations with me. His legal fees are adding up and I don't understand this, as he's done basically nothing. Now he said if I don't come up with more money that he will withdraw. I called legal aid and was told that because it's in the process and because we own a house, that they can't help me. I don't understand this. Where can I get help??? What is a person in my situation to do? They suggested finding an attorney who will take on my case with no retaining and go after my husband for the fees. Is there anyone who does that? Thank you.....

Contact the bar association in your area and ask for a referral to an attorney. However, a lot of what an attorney does, which can take a lot of time, doesn't necessarily mean the attorney will be successful, and this is very frustrating. It may be the attorney you have doesn't have a great "bedside manner" meaning his or her communications with you are not working, which may simply mean you and this attorney are not a "good fit" with each other.
