Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Property - Non-married couples

My fiancee and I are breaking up. We have been together for 4 years and recently bought a house as joint tenants. We had been married and divorced. We were attempting to re-marry for the last two years. She put up the down payment. Do I have any rights to the house?

Re: Property - Non-married couples

Hello. Yes. You have rights to the house. You

are on the deed. It may be necessary for you

to file a partition suit which is a term used

in the equity courts to describe a court proceeding where the court separates interest

in property, business, etc. Since there is no

marriage between you and your fiance, this is

probably the best approach. Should you have any

more questions, I will be happy to answer them.
