Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
This question is not about me, but my boyfriend.
When he was married to his ex-wife, she purchased their home and he was not on the deed. In the divorce papers , she was given legal ownership of the house along with all the responsibilities of the home (property taxes, utilities ect).
He has not lived in the home in over 2 1/2 years and their divorce was final in 2009.
Three weeks after the divorce was final, she went and added him to the deed of the house without his knowledge or consent. She has since filed for bancruptcy and foreclosed on the home.
He just found out this week that the bank and utility companies are now coming after him since his name is on the deed since they can no longer come after her.
Is this legal?

It sounds strange that after a divorce a woman would deed a house to her ex. If they were divorced then she had no right to put him on the utilities after the divorce. She can always deed the house to him , if that is what she wanted top do. That can't be stopped, but it does not make him liable on the mortgage or any other expenses.
