Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I have questions regarding a legal seperation. We have two children 18 & 13 and my husband is on disability. We receive a monthly check for the 13 yr old. The check comes in my name. I would to know how this affects the monthly payment if we were to legally get seperated.
