Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Real estate property that has been deeded from a mother to her son for the sum of $1 and mothers holds Life Estate. The son is in a divorce., so can the wife make any claim to this ss an asset since deed shows it was conveyed over to the son?

Son will argue, with much vigor, that it is non-marital property - a gift from Mom- Did Son pay anything for the property - was the transfer exempt? There is a resumption that it is marital property, so it is the son's burden to prove it falls within the exceptions which allow foir non-marital property.
